Microsoft Equation 3.0

Often you may need to create equation in MS Word to prepare your assignment, note or for any other purpose. Whatever your purpose, you must agree with me that this is a too boring job!
It is time consuming as well as difficult to perform. And sometimes it is very difficult to find a particular option. But from now you’ll enjoy typing equation in Microsoft Equation 3.0. Because in this post I’m giving some keyboard shortcuts for Microsoft Equation 3.0.

This is mainly of concern to those dealing with equations in files created prior to Office 2007, which includes a separate equation writing component not implicated by the security issue. Microsoft retained Equation Editor 3.0 in later versions of Office to maintain backward compatibility. That isn't the end of it, however. Equation Editor (Microsoft Equation 3.0) is a component that is included in Microsoft Office for compatibility with equations that were written in a version earlier than Office 2007. Users who want to disable the Equation Editor component can manually create and set registry entries for Microsoft Office.

Equation Editor (Microsoft Equation 3.0) was included in earlier versions of Word, but was removed from all versions in the January 2018 Public Update (PU) and replaced with a new equation editor. The content here describes this feature for users who have installed this update.

Office XP and 2003 users can launch Equation Editor from Insert –> Object –> Microsoft Equation 3.0.

  2. The messages referring to 'Equation 3.0' is shorthand for the 'Microsoft Equation Editor' which was an OLE component. It was a rebranded, cut-down version of Design Science's MathType editor. OLE components are small binary programs that are loaded into an existing process (usually office/'productivity' programs) which then display an inline UI.
As the Equation options are very critical so it is not possible to show them in written format in this blog page. So I’m giving picture of shortcuts.

The Equation Editor allows you to easily define complex equations within a Word document. Many other WordTips have dealt with how to use the Equation Editor and format equations. Normally, you use one of these two methods to start the Equation Editor:

  • Double-click on an existing equation originally created with the Equation Editor.
  • Choose Object from the Insert menu. Word displays the Object dialog box. Choose Microsoft Equation from the list.

If you use a lot of equations in your documents, these methods can quickly become tedious. To make life easier, you can add an Equation Editor tool to any toolbar. To add the tool, follow these steps:
